Caribbean Through A Lens, 2012

A documentary film

A set of dominoes

An installation of photo panels

A documentary film and a set of dominoes created as part of a participatory project with local people from Southwark’s Caribbean communities, reinterpreting historic photographs from The National Archives' Caribbean Through A Lens Photographic Archive.

Sajovic worked with a group of local people from Southwark’s Caribbean communities, who gathered together in response to a general call. The aim of the project was to reinterpret historic photographs from The National Archives' Caribbean Through A Lens Photographic Archive.

Through a series of conversational workshops where participants were using photographs to tell stories related to their memories, new captions were produced and used by the artist to produce a set of playable dominoes. Footage and sound collected during the sessions resulted in a documentary film launched and permanently installed  at the Cuming Museum, Southwark, and as a temporary exhibition at The Keeper's Gallery, The National Archives, Kew.
